UK SUBS “XXIV” CD Captain Oi

Blasphemy! I think most of you reading this will know what that is; well I'm just about to commit it! We all know that the UK Subs first two albums were punk classics and rightly so, but dare I suggest that this is on a par? That room should be made in the live set for a least half a dozen songs from this album? Forget the last album “Work in Progress” which was not a Subs classic really, this is the Subs on fire. This is a Subs classic line up too; Charlie along with Alvin Gibbs, Jet and Jamie Oliver qualify now in my opinion. “Another Kind of Blues”, “Brand New Age”, “Crash Course”, we all know em, but add “XXIV” or the 24th album to that illustrious list. All the band members have written lyrics and in Alvin Gibbs’ case, even sung them. “Implosion 77”, “Coalition Government Blues”, “Monkeys”, “Workers Revolution” and the rest should all be talked about like “Stranglehold”, “CID”, “Teenage” etc in time. Even the bonus acoustic tracks will end up getting you, especially after a couple of beers and the toes 'will' start tapping! I should have realised how powerful this album was going to be last year, when I watched them blow the pathetic NOFX off the stage in Bournemouth. If ever there was a yard stick for so many punk bands then this is it. Oh yeah, the CD package is quality too; with a great booklet containing all the lyrics. 10/10 Punk points to all involved with that as well!
