UK Subs are still going strongALBUM REVIEW: UK SUBS: Work In Progress (Captain Oi!)
Published Date: 22 December 2010
CHARLIE Harper's UK Subs are a rarity in punk circles, recording and touring constantly since they formed in 1976.
There's been a multitude on members – nearly 70 – as they work their way towards releasing an album for every letter of the alphabet, and I wonder what they'll do after this one, which leaves only three to go.
Their first studio album in eight years contains 14 tracks – 13 originals plus a cover of Strychnine by the Sonics, and for a band whose heyday was 30 years ago, it's surprisingly good.
Some of it is punk by numbers, but Creation, The Axe, Radio Unfriendly and Blood are decent songs, and fans – and there is still a hardcore – should like it. 6/10. GW.
